Who I am:
Hi there! I am Amanda Oporta. I have worked in aging care for more than 25 years and more specifically with those who are living with dementia and their care partners.
I have had some of the greatest opportunities advocating and educating about topics and people that are less understood than others. The best part about it is the more you know, the better decisions you can make for yourself.
My background comes from many different professional experiences; my degree focused on Medical Administration. But the most helpful part was working in social work and dementia educator roles through many Long-Term Care organizations and Hospital systems. There I have been able to navigate with clients and other professionals to problem solve many social, medical and community needs.
I am most proud of curriculums that I have created along with some other very talented educators, that leave a lasting impact on students, both young and old. And with clients that want to learn about their own diagnosis or medical and social needs so they can understand it better and thrive in the situations that they may face.
I decided it is time to create a space where we all can work together to bring awareness of aging well, along with just knowing that there are resources available in your very own community that are hard to find when you don’t know where to look! Why not have a space where all of this collides and where we put the power back in our own hands by learning about things we didn’t know we needed to know. We can be super-agers; living well and enjoying our journey, wherever it may take us. When we are able to share our Wise Owl experiences with each other, we will feel more purpose, learning from each other’s experiences and offering a bit of ourselves.
Thank you for taking the time to read about what makes me tic and what I am passionate about. I hope that this resource finds you well and inspires you.
